• Nobody cares about a disease until it is actually affecting them, we here in Brittan aren’t doing anything to fight Malaria because it isn’t affecting us, and nobody is doing anything about Climate Change because it isn’t affecting them directly yet.
• The poorest people (ie those with the least access to proper health care) are always the ones who get hit the worst by disease. just like with Global warming, those who contributed the least to the current CO2 levels are going to be hit the worst when the sea level starts to rise.
• Both disease and Global Warming have devastating effects, they both affect large areas, and no one is safe from them.
• Diseases can change, when a vaccine is created to fight a disease, that disease will go away for a while but then return slightly different and a new vaccine will have to be created etc etc. Climate Change keeps affecting people in different ways, rising sea levels, temperature change, odd weather patterns, more natural disasters etc etc.
• Both disease and Climate Change are so easy to prevent, yet we do little or nothing about either issue.
• We cannot see disease, only its affects. We can’t sea Global Warming, we can only see the devastation it is causing.
• Humans all ways seem to need someone to blame for everything that goes wrong. So if loads of people get sick, people would say that it was the politicians fault, they should’ve done more. Global warming is no ones fault except our own! we did this to our selves.

But the truth is that Obama fought desperatly to salvage a deal, but he was blocked continously by the the Chinese delegate,Wen Jinbao. Sudan was the puppet of China; one of a number of countries thatwere loyal to China, together the ruined any chance of a deal being salvaged.

The Chinese delegate did not attened last fridays talks, instead he sent a second tier official to sit opposite Obama. And during the talking he did attend, he kept everyone waiting when he had to make regular calls to his ‘superiors’.

You cannot blame Obama, it was China’s representative who insisted that industrialised country targets, previously agreed as an 80% cut by 2050, be taken out of the deal. “Why can’t we even mention our own targets?” demanded a furious Angela Merkel. Australia’s prime minister, Kevin Rudd, was annoyed enough to bang his microphone. The Chinese delegate said ‘No ‘. They wanted Obama to get the blame for this shambles, and he did.

China, backed at times by India, then proceeded to take out all the numbers that mattered. A 2020 peaking year in global emissions, essential to restrain temperatures to 2C, was removed and replaced by stupid language suggesting that emissions should peak “as soon as possible”. The long-term target, of global 50% cuts by 2050, was also taken out.  If the Chinese not been in the room, we would have left Copenhagen with a deal that would’ve saved the world.

China didn’t want a deal, they make most of their money through cheap coal. They couldn’t afford to let a deal go though, so they basically doomed the world because they were being total ****s.

Fitting your hot water tank with an insulating jacket will only cost a few pounds and, with all the heat it traps, it pays for itself within six months. Fit one that’s at least 75mm (3 inches) thick and you could save around £30 a year. If every UK household that could fitted an adequate tank-jacket tomorrow, it would save over £132 million of energy every year.

Insulate your loft

Around half the heat lost in a typical home escapes through the walls and the roof.

Insulating your loft is simple to do and you can even install the insulation yourself. Even if you already have loft insulation, check its thickness. Adding another layer to bring it up to the recommended 270mm will save both energy and money being wasted.

Fill your wall cavities

Around a third of the heat lost in a house without insulation is through the walls. You could save up to £120 on your energy bills each year by insulating your wall cavities. Installation takes just a couple of hours for a typical family home and can be done from the outside. If everyone in the UK filled their wall cavities, it would save around £670 million of energy a year.

Energy saving light bulbs

The picture above could become a common sight along British motorways, with the government finally taking the initiative and doing something to counter global warming.

A single wind turbine can produce 350,000 kWh of energy a year, but this is not a very feasible option. Depending on the size of the power station, it would take arround 500 wind turbines to produce any where near the amount of energy and a nuclear power station.

(This is just an odd fact.) In order to power the world off nothing but wind turbines, you would need 496,905 square feet of space given over to the turbines.

This is an example of a wind farm.

There is an equivalent to petrol of detail, it is called Algae oil. All that goes into Algae oil is Vegetable oil, biogasoline, biomethanol, biodiesel, bioethanol, biobutanol and other biofuels that can be made from Algae. So it a completely eco-friendly equivalent to Petrol. And it is a sustainable resource.

They are calling Algae oil the 'new Deisel'.

The government has started to invest in these eco-friendly methods. So maybe one day we won’t have to worry about Global Warming.

The rise in temperature, over the past decade or so, has started to melt the ice caps at an alarming rate. The annual melt season in Antarctica has increased by 2-3 weeks and now most of the antarctic glaciers are retreating. The ice sheets that are already in the water won’t effect sea level but he melting ice shelves will. If all the ice in both Antarctica and in Greenland were to melt the lea level will rise up to 20 meters. That will have a devastating affect, the whole of the Netherlands will be gone, completely covered over by tonnes of water.

All the small islands in the Pacific will be wiped out, and those that coursed the least problems get punished the most heavily. All theses floods will cause millions of refugees that we will have to care for.

The temperature rise

All those foods that only grow in a country because of its climate will stop growing because of the drastic rise in temperature. Places like Equatorial Guinea will become inhospitably hot. And all the animals that live in a country because of its climate will be forced to either move or die. This is the cause of all the problems: flooding, the ice melting, the forests dying etc…

Animal Life

The melting Arctic is home to the POlar bear. This animal is not suited to the long journeys it must take to find food. hundreds of Polar bears die when they drown, completely exhausted, whilst looking for food. The fact that the ice is melting is forcing them to swim for miles to find the seals that they used to be able hunt easily.

This polar bear is hanging on to the last of what was once a huge ice sheet.

And these are not new issues. Some of these problems have been arround for decades but governments from around the world have chosen to ignore the probelms. So it is THEIR  fault.

1. Over half the world’s plant and animal spiciese are found in the rainforests.

2. The Amazon rainforest releases 20 billion tonnes of moistuer every day, which helps to water crops thousands of miles away.

3. Deforestation releases more CO2 into the atmosphere per year then all the cars planes and ships put together.

4.Healthy rainforest absorb up to 10% of our carbon emissions every year.

5. 15 million hectares of rainforest are lost every year.

6. The forests are being cut down at the rate of a football pitch every second.

7. south america contained 60% of the worlds rainforests, they have cut down 60% of that forest.

8.  The trunk of one tree can store up to 300 tonnes of carbon, the roots 40 tonnes and the soil around the trees can store up to 1500 tonnes of carbon.

9. Africa if responsible for 60% of the world’s deforestation, followed by Asia with 34%, and then Europe with 6%.

10. You know those articles that say ‘going vegitarian can save the world’. They aren’t that stupid. Cattle ranching is the cause of 20% of Africa’s deforestation.

Why is deforestation happening?

These are a few reasons for why deforestation happens.

1. Over half the deforestaion that happens in africa is done by poor subsistance farmers who are trying to make a living.

2. Farmers in Brazil can make up to £3000 per hectare by clearing forest and growing sowbeans.

3. almost half of the best selling products in britan contain palm oil, which is linked to the deforestation in Asia.

Why we must act now.

1. rainforests will have practically disapeared in 50 years if we don’t act now.

2. Up to £25 billion may be needed over the next five years to tackle the issue.

3. critical desisions on how to value rainforests must be taken by the end of 2009.

The solution

The solution is to make the forests worth more alive then dead. this will stop the countries from continuing to deforest. After all they are only doing it for money.

66% of brithis adults said they would be happy for the government to spend a little bit of the tax payer’s money on conserving the forests.

The money would be spent on:

1. Financing renewable energy and other critical inffrastructure.

2. Financing new buisnesses and alternative livlihoods.

3. Investing in new forest plantations for timber, fuel and pulp.

4. funding the development of agriculture on non-forested land.

5. funding for forest protection.

6. payments for the indiginous people to conserve the rainforests.

7. investment in sustainable managment of the natural forest.

Ed Miliband, the energy and climate change secretary, says that at the approaching climate change talks in Copenhagen, the british government needs to push for a deal that is strong enough to cut the temperature rise to two degrees.

Ban Ki-Moon, the UN secretary-general, told religious leaders today to ’set an example for the life style of billions’. He also told those there that they could encourage government to act more boldly in protecting people and the planet.

“We have the technology and the science. Science has made it clear that climate change is happening and accelerating much, much faster than one realises,” he said.

“We have know-how and resources but the only vacuum is political will, that is all that is lacking. You can provoke, challenge and inspire political leaders.”

“Those most likely to suffer first and worst…anre the poor. The poor are also least responsible for the emissions currently in our atmosphere.”

One leader said, “We have many environmental problems in Indonesia – we suffer from flooding, tidal waves. We have 1,000 islands and we are fragile. Lots of our people live in coastal areas, by the beach. We should move quickly and act now.”

You see how when there is a natural disaster like the boxing day tsunami, all the governments find it hard to cope with all the refugees. Well, climate change will cause floods that will create 200 million refugees. How will the government cope with that?

It is due to the media that there was all that rubbish that global warming could be another natural thing and humans had nothing to do with it. The media is a tool, and it was being used to try and suppress just how much of an issue global warming is.

Things like ‘CALIFORNIA SIZED AREA OF ICE MELTS’ must have been in the news papers at one point, but now it is happening to often that it has dropped out of the papers. In 2002 the Larsen B ice shelf melted, it covered 3,250 square kilometers, this huge event took just 31 days.

Although this doesn’t make the sea levels rise it is still a problem, and it isn’t just the ice shelves that are melting. Almost all the glaciers in North America have melted and if the ice sheets melts it will make the sea level rise as well as destroying one of the world’s most beautiful continents.

Melting ice from Greenland and the Arctic could change the climate. The freezing cold fresh water can change the natural sea currents that keep our climate ‘stable’, and if the currents change the climate would go crazy. Look at the map below, the fresh water would stop the cold dense water from sinking and would therefore cool down the rest of the current, say goodbye to our summer.

And global warming is not only affecting humans, the melting ice ing the arctic is killing off the polar bears. The bears are meant to hunt on ice, but with no ice left they are forced into the sea, they go out looking for the ice and end up drowning.

Why then is this not enough to let the politicians know it is time to do something, WE have brought about the destruction of this now helpless species.

These polar bears are looking for a new home, those few blocks of ice are all that is left of their old one.

De-forestation is second only to the energy sector as a source of CO2. Cutting down the rainforests is giving off 25% of the world’s CO2, while industry and transport account for only 14% each. And planes only 3%.   If the rainforests of the Amazon, the Congo basin and Indonesia  are cut down, they will in the next four years alone pump more CO2 into the atmosphere than every flight in the history of aviation to at least 2025.

These maps show how much of the earth was covered in trees compared to how much of it was covered in 2005.

If the british goverment gave a small amount of money to the countries that cutting down the trees then they wouldn’t need to cut them down any more.
